Clontarf alumni, current students, staff and supporters gathered at Centralian Middle School during school holidays to welcome very special guests – the Governor-General of Australia His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove and the Mayor of Alice Springs, Mr Damien Ryan.

As Clontarf’s National Patron, the Governor-General was in Alice Springs as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations and had organised a visit to Centralian Middle School Academy.

10 Clontarf boys as well as four alumni were on hand to welcome the Governor-General to the Academy. The boys took their guests around the Academy room, showing off their achievements and talking about their experiences in the programme.

Prior to the Academy visit, the Governor-General said he was thrilled to be in Alice Springs during such an important week on the national calendar.

“When you’re here, you really are in the heart of Australia,” the Governor-General said.

“It’s the country that so many Australians identify with. The colours, the vastness, the landmasses. I look forward to being a part of the NAIDOC celebrations and to visiting a Clontarf Academy.”

Centralian Middle School Academy and everyone at Clontarf would like to thank the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove for providing your support to our programme.
