Chatham Academy has had a great term in regards to part-time employment and future opportunities for the boys.

It started with the first Mid North Coast Region Employment Forum held at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie, which was a great success.

One partner added “I was so impressed by the boys and the staff. I find myself talking to people, including potential employers and praising the Clontarf Foundation and explaining the great work that is being done with the boys. I look forward to more involvement.”

This success translated into some real jobs for our boys. Four Chatham Academy boys gained part-time employment with Bunnings Taree. Bunnings Taree have been a wonderful support to our Academy and to Clontarf Academies all over Australia.

A couple of our senior boys have also been leading the way, being employed part-time at our local McDonalds restaurant and another boy being employed part-time at Mid Coast Eggs. It’s a credit to these boys for getting out and having a go.

Other opportunities came about with a visit to another valued Clontarf partner in Yancoal Mining. The boys went on a site tour and Yancoal have offered to take two boys on for a two week work experience placement.

On top of that, the local Park and Wildlife Service are looking to take on some of our Year 11 boys for traineeships next year. Two boys in particular have shown great interest in this opportunity.

We highly value the boys getting part-time employment and are extremely pleased with the senior boys who have taken their opportunities this term.
