Clontarf graduate Brad Aitchison stopped by the Clontarf offices with his family recently to catch up with some familiar faces and fill us in on his journey since completing the programme.

Brad was part of the first graduating class in 2002 and has since gone on to a successful career as a Fitter and Operator currently working in a FIFO role for Fortescue Metals Group Ltd.

Originally from Port Hedland, Brad and his brother moved to Perth in 2001 when their father heard about the programme and the successes it was having in a short period of time.

Brad credits the Foundation for instilling a solid work ethic; using goal-setting and celebrating milestones along the way to the career and lifestyle he strived for.

“Once I graduated I wanted to accomplish more,” Brad said.  “I pursued a four-year apprenticeship as a Heavy Duty Fitter with Rio Tinto and studied at the CAT institute in Guildford.

“What I enjoy most about my job is that I am putting my training to use and can solve problems that others can’t.  I enjoy challenges and completing them.”

Brad is working towards buying a family home and hopes more boys follow in his footsteps.

“Make sure you get your grades up as it helps you in the long run,” is Brad’s message to current students. “Don’t rely on getting drafted to the AFL; get an education and earn a career to be proud of.”
